Welcome to the Trinity Blog!

November 2, 2020

It’s almost seven months since Sharaya and I arrived in Red Deer to serve at Trinity. Despite the obvious challenges inflicted by COVID-19, there is a lot to celebrate. We’ve rebranded. We’ve built a new website. We’ve reworked our vision. We’ve started recording and live-streaming Sunday meetings. We’ve been gathering on Mondays and Fridays to pray (now just Fridays). We’ve completed a weekly devotional series on the book of Ezra, and have just finished 1 Peter on Sundays. A few weeks ago, there were thirty-four people gathered at The Centre (including four children). For a church of around twenty every Sunday, that’s a big deal.

God is moving, and I’m excited. I hope you are too.

As we step forward into new territory, we have two choices: we can celebrate where we are, or we can press on. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to slow down! So what’s next?

Since moving to Red Deer, we have consistently been asked the same question: “what makes you different as a church?” I’m not entirely sure that we should be seeking to be different as a church, given that we are all following the teachings of the same divinely-inspired Word of God. However, we do believe that there’s an area we want to focus on:

We are pursuing a sense of family over formality.

We believe that God speaks to all of the members of our church community, not just a select few from the platform. We want to hear what God is saying both to you and through you for the for this church family. We make space for contributions on Sunday for that very reason. I’m positive you don’t need reminding, but this is actually scriptural:

“What then, brothers and sisters? Whenever you come together, each one has a hymn, a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Everything is to be done for building up.” – 1 Cor 14:26

Friends, when we gather on a Sunday, be prepared to share what God is saying to you! It’s a joy to hear God speak through you as we meet, but we believe there are more opportunities than just Sunday. We’d love to hear from you during the week as well.

Welcome to the Trinity Blog!

The Trinity blog is an opportunity to share a whole host of articles such as devotionals, church news, testimonies, etc. The blog a perfect opportunity for us to cultivate that sense of family together; to listen to and encourage one another; to build one another up, and share what God is saying to us. We’re excited about the possibilities and hope that you will join us.

We’ll begin by emphasizing our vision as a church before walking through Book of Nehemiah (as a follow up to Ezra). After that, it’s open season! We intend to post two to three times a week, so there will be lots of opportunities for you to be involved. If you’d like to share something, please follow these guidelines:

  • Please let me know what you’re thinking of writing about. We want to make sure that the articles are cohesive and appropriate for our church family, and there is a small chance that we may ask you to edit, postpone, or not to use the article.
  • Please aim for less than 800 words per post (although this is absolutely open to discussion if the content is right).
  • You can ask questions or submit articles to davebetts@trinityreddeer.ca/ (and of course, you can phone, text, or speak to me in person, as well).

We’re looking forward to hearing what God says through you!
